Number LinesNumber Lines are definitely something to use in your mathematics classroom! This may be having a gigantic one in front of the classroom or individual ones of students' desks. Number lines will never not be beneficial for students solving problems.
ExplanationsALWAYS have your students explain why they got a certain answer! This will allow them to develop a good habit in figuring out their math problems with appropriate reasoning.

Finger CountingFinger counting will always be important no matter the age! We still use it to this day, so why are we discouraging our students to not finger count? Allow them to finger count from the first day, without having to hide it!
Mental MathKeeping brains refreshed and engaged in the classroom is always important. Start your mathematics lesson off with mental math.

This shows the different strategies in the classroom and opens discussion on peers work. Don't discourage a student when they get a wrong answer, instead scaffold them and make sure they are finding a strategy that works for them! |
